Sky Burial, a concert at Hong Kong Arts Festival

Date: 23/02/2023

  • Insula Orchestra, the resident orchestra at the Seine Musicale, shared the stage with accentus, National centre for vocal art Paris Ile-de-France, in Sky Burial, a multimedia concert featuring a film inspired by Fauré’s Requiem and created by the award-winning visual artist Mat Collishaw, at the 51st Hong Kong Arts Festival.

The concert was held at 8pm on 23 February at Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall. Under the baton of Laurence Equilbey, the conductor, musical director and founder of Insula Orchestra and accentus, the orchestra, choir and two soloists performed Gounod’s Saint Francois d'Assise in the first half of the concert. Suen Shun, a member of HKCC’s Concert Choir, performed the 5th movement “Pie Jesu” of Fauré’s Requiem in the second half of the concert, bringing to life with his angelic treble solo the tenderness and sensitivity imbued in the work by the composer.
