HK Phil Concert Bach | St Matthew Passion

The Hong Kong Children’s Choir (HKCC) was invited by Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) to participate in the concert Bach | St Matthew Passion on 3 and 4 February at Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall. Under the baton of HK Phil’s Music Director, Jaap van Zweden, HKCC Chamber Boys together with HK Phil, HK Phil Chorus, State Choir Latvija and an international cast of soloists presented the monumental piece of work by Bach over the weekend.

The libretto of St Matthew Passion is partly based on chapters 26 and 27 of St Matthew’s Gospel, with poetic interpolations written by the Leipzig poet Christian Friedrich Henrici. Chamber boys performed at the beginning and closing in the first half of the concert, expressing the dramatic emotional depth of the Passion story through the great chorales.
