Applicant must be Hong Kong resident, regardless of ethnicity, born on or after 1 Jan 1979.

About the Competition

  • Preliminary Round

    - Applicants should submit audition video of no more than two works of applicants; choices in any voicings.

    - Videos should be uploaded to YouTube or Tencent and set visible to the jury.

    - The video should include both conducting and rehearsing the choir for a minimum of 5 minutes and a maximum of 15 minutes.

    - The camera should show a full front of the applicant.

    - The applicant shall announce the title and composer of the works.

  • Semi-final (22nd April, 2019)

    - Chosen applicants will conduct a 30 to 45-minute-rehearsal with HKCC Concert Choir, in SSA/SSAA or more. Semi-final is not open to public.

    - Applicants are expected to rehearse and run through (without stopping) two
    works in applicant’s choice:

    i. conduct and rehearse two works from the list of repertoire provided, or,

    ii. conduct and rehearse one work from the list of repertoire provided and one own choice in SSA/SSAA voicing.

    - Rehearsal with HKCC can be conducted in Cantonese, English or Putonghua.

    - The organizer will provide piano accompanist, and applicants are welcome to bring their own.

    - The own choice can be in any languages, a cappella or piano accompanied.

  • Final

    - Finalists will conduct and rehearse The Asia Pacific Youth Choir on 24th July, 2019 to be held at Concert Hall of The Hong Kong Cultural Center as the closing concert of Asia Pacific Choral Summit.

Prizes and Awards

1st Prize: Cash award of HK$50,000 and overseas performance opportunity with The Hong Kong Children’s Choir in 2020

2nd Prize: Cash award of HK$40,000

3rd Prize: Cash award of HK$30,000

  4. All documents and data submitted will not be returned.

  5. Applicants must grant HKCC the right to use the submitted photos and works for publicity and promotional activities.

  6. HKCC reserves the right to record photos, audio and video materials during the competition period for all kinds of publicity and commercial purposes without seeking further approval from applicants or making payments of any kind to them.

  7. Should any dispute arise, the decision of The Hong Kong Children’s Choir shall be final.
